Hardest job
in the world is playing village cricket.

Is that a cricket bat
or are you pleased to see me?
Can you name
the team of 1976?
See the Club History
for a shock from the past, watch out for Pembo, Steve Freer
and Melton Times (Sports Editor) Colin Moulds.

Police
investigate hoax MBE letter
Paul Ward was recently
the victim of a hoax letter in which it stated that he should
attend an awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace to receive his
MBE for contributions to fair play in village cricket. Paul
attended the awards as requested in a "buff suit",
however the police at the Palace were less than impressed in
Paul's dress sense or the hoax letter.

The police cautioned Paul for lack of clothes and are
currently working through a list of 694 suspects that may have
due cause to play this prank on the law abiding HRCC captain.
The Police lady in the above photo is currently under going
treatment to have a permanent smile removed from her
face.
Stop Press: Barkby man arrested over hoax MBE
letter- more news to follow shortly.
Yet
another Golding Cup final!
Following a convincing
win against Claypole on Sunday 5th August HRCC will defend the
Golding Cup against Harlaxton on Bank Holiday Monday at the
end of this month at the Thorpe Arnold CC ground. The match
should start at around 2.00pm, team news and travel
arrangements will follow.
Combined Cup win at the third attempt
After two postponed
matches due to rain, the combined Cup final was played at
Thorpe Arnold CC in glorious sunshine. HRCC batted first and accumulated
a seemingly low total of 84 runs, however this total proved to
high for the Melton Town CC to struggled to reach 45. See the
match report section for more details.
Last ball thriller in Salaman Cup Final
Needing 12 runs from the final over seemed a tall
task for HRCC in the Salaman Cup final until Paul Ward and
Fish scored 11 off the first 5 balls against the mighty
Grantham Town CC, the outcome and full story is covered in the
match report section, don't miss it!
Skittles
raises £50 for New Pavilion fund
A sunny afternoon at Frisby fete was the perfect setting for a
small group of HRCC members to set up the outdoor skittles
alley in order to raise a few quid for the new pavilion.
With the protection of the cricket nets a large crowd saw a
hard fought ladies contest between Angie Freer and Hazel
Aylott, the Post Mistress just winning by one point.
The other winners were, Nigel Angraves (ex Melton Major) from
Rotherby in the gents section and Richard (sorry no surname)
in the Children's competition.
HRCC 1st
team 2001? or is the under 18's!

An under strength HRCC
Grantham League side enjoyed the limelight of a photo
shoot and a well earned victory on Sunday. The photo was taken
by Dennis "the trigger" Wright before, during and
after the HRCC home fixture against Pickwell CC. Despite the rumours
that Dennis was in trigger happy mood, he was kept waiting by
our opening batsmen, Paul Ward and Ian Townsend who knocked
off the 136 runs required in 25 overs to conclude a convincing
victory over our closest rivals.
Even better news Allington lost to Great Dalby who also beat
Pickwell last week- Thanks Fred!
Genny sends shock-waves to members
There will be a new lady
member from the start of the 2002 season, her name is has yet
to be decided, however short term we shall call her "Genny".
She is of course a Lister Deisel generator with enough power
to light the whole of Frisby.
We have to thank our friend at British Telecom for donating
the unit, which is worth several thousand. There is a small
amount of repair work to be carried out over the winter,
however it is a major step in the master plan to provide first
class facilities at Washstones Lane.
Combined Cup
Final postponed
Following a down pour of
rain on friday afternoon it was decided to cancel the Combined
cup final, a revised date has not yet been agreed.
The venue however will again be Melton Town CC on Saxby Road.
Anne scores
50 not out on mid-summers night
Anne Swann, who has
contributed in the development of HRCC in providing the team
with her husband Graham, four first team son's (Matt, Andy,
Mike and Rich) and by being an articulate scorer, celebrated
her 50th birthday on the longest day of the year.
The garden party that was held at her home in Frisby was
closer to a rock concert than a village tea party. All 256
attendee's had a ball, however several Frisby residents
complained to the Police due to the volume of enjoyment, one
stated, "Anne seems such a quiet person when she
attends the Church services, I had no idea she was a
rocker".
A spokesman for HRCC added "Congratulations Anne, keep
on rocking but keep your head down"
Finals galore for HRCC
There are two evening cup finals that HRCC
have won through to, the first will be held at Melton CC home
ground on Saxby Road this Friday 13th July against Melton CC.
The second final is in the Salaman Cup at Egerton Park where
we face the might of Grantham Town CC with their
"Spitting Dutchman" from the Allington clash opening
the batting. This fixture is scheduled for 27th July with 6.00
start.
“Outside
Edge” provided smiles all round
Frisby Players, the local thespian society have made a
genius donation of £150 to HRCC; this money will be go
towards the new pavilion fund. The last event that the Frisby
Players produced was a play called “Outside Edge”, not
only did it have a very strong storyline but also featured
several aspects of HRCC. Matt Swann was a leading character,
playing the part of “Kevin” a young spin bowler that cut
his vital digit. George Allsopp played the role of the top
batsman “Alex”, who had a habit of running out his
team-mates, a bit of a Boycott. John Penney and Alan Westman
were part of the production team, in charge of sound effects
and lighting. The “It’s a Knockout” king, Geoff Harris,
directed the play and last but not least Graham Swann was the
overall Producer, building the set and pinching the props.
Several
members of HRCC attended (no complimentary tickets can you
believe it!) and all found the play to be humorous and very
close to reality!
Revenge is
sweet in Salaman Cup
HRCC continued their run of success in this premiere
regional evening cup competition by recently thrashing Barkby
CC at Frisby, the win was never in doubt due to an over site
by the Barkby captain who over-bowled one of his strike
bowlers by one over. When Hoby player Paul Ward pointed out
this unfortunate event to the Barkby captain, he offered HRCC
to over bowl one of our men by a similar amount. Paul Wards
reply, “We like to play by the rules and feel that the
organisers should decide on such matters” brought hoots of
laughter from the home players and supporters, remembering
that Barkby had caused a stink over the fixture mix-up with
organisers.
The next round in the Salaman cup was on Monday 2nd
July at Egerton Park, I am pleased to report that HRCC beat
Queniborough with one ball to spare, thanks to the cool head
of Ian Welbourne.
Frank
Woodhead Cup final at HRCC
HRCC have accepted the invitation to host the Frank
Woodhead Cup final at Washstones Lane, Frisby, on Monday 9th
July.
The final
will be contested between Old Dalby and Knossington. Both
teams will be at full strength and it is rumoured that several
senior league clubs will be represented in one form or
another!
There is strong rumour of a beer tent, so get down and support
the event.
It's a Knockout event date confirmed
Please
make a special note in your diaries that Sunday 16th
September will be the Clubs major fund raising day of the year
and therefore we request the support of all its members on
this day.
Geoff and
Gainer Harris have again agreed to run the “Knockout”
event and already there is a good level of interest building.
Should any members have any ideas or know of prospective teams
that want to compete, please do not hesitate to contact either
Edward Hutchison or John Penney.
Any new Cricket kit?
If you want to purchase HRCC jumpers (long sleeve or slipover), caps or cricket shirts in time for the new season then you need to get your orders to Edward Hutchison by the end of February.
